Nuala Carey together with her husband Darragh opened Glengarriff Pharmacy on 5th July 2010. With two busy GPs in the village, Nuala recognised the need for a pharmacy and initially opened a small premises at the top of the village. The pharmacy quickly outgrew its initial location, and in April 2013 it relocated to a larger premises beside the Doctors Surgery.
In February 2015 our Beauty Rooms were opened. With no beauty salon in the village at the time, Nuala and the staff identified the need and renovated the pharmacy to accommodate the expanded offering. We now offer a comprehensive range of beauty services and treatments, which can be booked online.
In May 2016 Nuala was nominated for and chosen as a finalist for the IPN Superintendent Pharmacist of the Year. The awards were held in Dublin where Nuala was honoured to represent Glengarriff amongst industry leaders, large chains and corporations.
In November 2016 Nuala received the accolade of Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur for Best Established Business Cork North and West. The competition recognises entrepreneurs under 35 years who have grown successful businesses from foundation to finish, and who provide exceptional service to their local community.
In May 2017 Nuala was also selected as a finalist for the IPN Superintendent Pharmacist of the Year, for the second consecutive year – in itself a huge achievement.
In April 2020, Nuala and Darragh once again recognised the need for expansion and set about acquiring a larger property across the road, the former ‘Catherine Hammond Gallery’. After extensive renovation, the pharmacy opened its doors once again in the new premises on July 13th 2020. New brands and ranges were added to the pharmacy at this time including Clarins, Image Skincare, L’Occitane and many more. The beauty salon also underwent an extensive revamp, and reopened on July 13th also in the new premises.
